Channel Your Inner Mermaid At Cedar Park Aquatic Workout Site

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — If you've ever wanted the sensation of being a mermaid (or merman) while vigorously swimming, you're in luck. AquaMermaid classes are coming to Cedar Park.

What is AquaMermaid? It's something called a "mermaid school" where participants engage in full-body workouts while donning a stretch-fabric mermaid tail with a monofin attached at the end. It's a way of channeling your inner mermaid, to be sure (and who among us doesn't harbor this vision quest?) but the fishy attachments isolate toning to the core, legs and gluts while enhancing swimming performance and grace under water, officials noted.

According to the AquaMermaid website, the company operates sites in Las Vegas, Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles and other cities. Several Canadian AquaMermaid sites offer classes in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec and Edmonton. The Cedar Park location is scheduled to open Oct. 6 at Nitro Swimming, 1310 Toro Grande Blvd.

Among the classes are an intro to the "dolphin kick" and other decidedly mermaid-like techniques. Those eschewing a workout in favor of a pool party with guests dressed up like mermaids can avail themselves of that fantasy as well.

After learning about a mermaid class in Germany, founder Marielle Chartier Hénault decided to launch the classes as described on the company website.

Fulfilling fantasies ain't always cheap, as a fee schedule found on the website would indicate. Three months' worth of lessons start at $225. Interested in organizing a kids' mermaid party? That'll set you back a minimum of $300.
