As part of the City of Cedar Park’s continued commitment to customer service, a random sampling of Cedar Park residents were surveyed in spring this year.  It was the second time the City has conducted a resident survey.  A randomly selected group of residents received a resident survey in the mail from the National Citizen Survey (NCS), administered by Polco National Research Center, Inc. (NRC).  The NRC spent the past few months collecting  survey results and compiled a report they presented to City Council at their August 26, 2021 Regular Scheduled Meeting.

Cedar Park Mayor Corbin Van Arsdale said, “It’s very useful to be able to hear what things we are doing well and what things we can improve on.  I like the fact that we’re not afraid to go ask our residents what they think, and I’ve always liked the way our organization finds ways we can be better.  Whatever our residents think, it gives us a chance to take their temperature and see how we can improve.”

The 2021 survey serves as an update to the 2019 survey and gives the City an opportunity to compare 2021 ratings with 2019 ratings.  Major themes of the survey results include:

  • Cedar Park continues to be a highly desirable place to live
  • Residents give high marks to City’s economic environment, feeling of public safety and quality of parks and recreation operations
  • Continued concerns with mobility (ease of getting to places visited regularly), diversity and inclusion, cost of living and arts and culture within the City of Cedar Park
  • Areas of decline, such as resident involvement, connection with the community and ability to attend events, are partially driven by the pandemic

Out of a scientific sample of 3,000 households, 351 people returned surveys and there is a five percent margin of error.  Citizens gave especially positive feedback regarding various facets of community livability.  The surveys revealed that Cedar Park ranks higher than national benchmarks in quality of life in general when compared with hundreds of benchmark cities nationwide.  Nine in ten people gave excellent or good ratings to Cedar Park as a place to live, and 91 percent gave positive marks to the overall image/reputation of Cedar Park.  98 percent of respondents said they are likely to recommend living in Cedar Park and to remain here for the next five years.
