Deadline Fast Approaching For Leander City Council Hopefuls
City is scheduled to stage a general election on Saturday, May 4, to elect successors to three expiring city council terms.

LEANDER, TEXAS — The deadline to file an application to run for a place on the Leander City Council is fast approaching.
The city is scheduled to stage a general election on Saturday, May 4, to elect successors to three expiring city council terms of office currently held in places 1, 3 and 5. To that end, the first day to file an application for a place on the ballot is Wednesday, Jan. 16. The deadline to submit a completed application is Friday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
Applications for a place on the ballot are available on the city website at https://leandertx.gov/elections and in the city secretary’s office, 105 N. Brushy St. Applicants must meet all city and state requirements to qualify for candidacy, including:

- be a citizen of the United States; qualified voter of the city; resident of the city, or in an area annexed into the city, for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately prior to the date of the election;
- be twenty-one (21) years of age or older; and not be delinquent on any indebtedness to the city.

- The offices of mayor and all council member places are elected at-large by majority vote. The last day for submitting a voter registration application or transfer of registration in time to vote in the general election is April 4. Voter registration applications may be obtained at Leander City Hall.
