Saturday, Aug. 25, brings last movie in 'Dive-In Movies' series with 'Sherlock Gnomes' and Sept. 7 'Movies in the Park' has 'Early Man.'

LEANDER, TEXAS — Just because summer is coming to a close doesn't mean you can't dive in to community life and have a little fun. With that gusto in mind, you might be interested in attending the last "Dive-in Movies" screening of the year in Leander.
On Saturday, Aug. 25, the city hosts the last movie in the series with "Sherlock Gnomes." The film starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Bledsoe Park pool, 601 S. Bagdad Rd. Admission is just $2 a pop. The movie, officials explain, will generally start at dusk.
Sherlock Gnomes (also known as Gnomeo & Juliet 2: Sherlock Gnomes) is a 2018 3D computer-animated comedy film directed by John Stevenson. The plot doesn't delay the action, opening with protagonist Sherlock Gnomes and his assistant, Gnome Watson, storming into London's natural history museum, where their nemesis— a pie mascot named Moriarty — is holding gnomes hostage with plans to smash them to bits. After a brief battle, Moriarty is seemingly defeated after getting crushed by a dinosaur skeleton.

If you miss the last dive-in movie, you might mark your calendar for Sept. 7 for the next screening of the free "Movies in the Park" series. "Early Man" at the Mason Homestead is the next film to be screened.
A 2018 British stop-motion animated historical sports comedy film directed by Nick Park, the plot follows the action after an asteroid collides with the prehistoric Earth, causing the extinction of the planet's dinosaurs while sparing a tribe of cavemen living near the impact site. While born of celestial doom, this is where the fun ensues.
Here's how city officials describe the Movies in the Park film series: "Often described as a combination of state-of-the-art technology and the nostalgia of the 1950s drive-in, the Movies in the Park series provides families the opportunity to spend time together under the stars while enjoying first run movies...all for FREE!!"
Screenings take place at the Benbrook Ranch Park, the Mason Homestead and Robin Bledsoe Park, with music and games before the movie that begins just after dusk. Attendees are encouraged to bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic dinner. Concessions are also available. Glass containers are prohibited. Friendly pets are welcomed on a leash.
All movies are rated "G" or "PG" by the Motion Picture Association of America unless otherwise indicated.
