Escaped South Carolina Fugitive Was Captured In Cedar Park

Jimmy Causey, 46, was aided by drone-delivered cutters, smuggled cell phone and dummy facsimile that fooled the guards who thought he slept.

CEDAR PARK, TX — It's not every day that an escaped fugitive from another state is nabbed in Cedar Park. Yet that's precisely what happened last weekend, when law enforcement agents arrested a South Carolina fugitive at a local motel.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials along with members of the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force told media outlets they arrested Jimmy Causey, 46, just before 3 a.m. at a Motel 6. Causey was found with two guns (a pistol and shotgun) along with nearly $50,000 in cash.

ABC News reported that Causey's escape from the Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville, S.C. the previous Wednesday was aided with wire cutters dropped off by a drone. His flight was something out of of Hollywood movie, his escape aided by a smuggled cell phone, the drone-delivered fence cutters and a dummy he fashioned to fool guards into thinking he was in his bed sleeping, according to the report.

This marked the second time in 12 years that Causey had escaped, the news station noted. The tools of his escape gave Causey an 18-hour start before police caught up with last Friday morning. Causey was in jail serving a life sentence for holding up an attorney and his family at gunpoint in their home, according to reports.
