Halloween 2015: Leander Police's Trunk-or-Treat to Provide Safe, Fun Alternative

The event, in it's fourth year, will be held on the night of Halloween from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Families looking to celebrate Halloween in a safe, fun environment, can drag your little pirates, princesses, mermaids and mummies to the Leander Police Department’s fourth Trunk-or-Treat on the night of Halloween.

For the past three years, the Leander police have hosted the event as an alternative to door to door trick-or-treating. The police are hoping for a larger turnout this year. The event will run from 6:30-8:30 Halloween night, but the department will be unable to host the event in its parking lot. The location is to be decided.

Area car clubs decorate their cars for the event, dress in costumes and hand out candy to children. These clubs generally include classic cars, modified cars and race cars.

Kids can also look through emergency vehicles and participate in small games and costume contests. Awards will be handed out to car owners. In the past, awards have been given for best classic car, best muscle car and most likely to get a speed ticket. The “entry fee” for car owners is simple: bring a bag of candy.

This year the event will also be a kick off for Blue Santa, an initiative run by the police to provide Christmas gifts to families in need. The police suggest you bring a gift to Trunk-Or-Treat, where they will try to fill a SWAT truck with presents.
