Heavy Rain In Leander Blamed For Collision Off Highway 183

Rain wreaking havoc on roadways with pooling and runoff affecting travel, police say.

LEANDER, TX -- Leander police have cleared the scene of an accident Tuesday morning that was partially caused by slick roads in the midst of heavy rainfall.

The crash at about 10 a.m. prompted closure of the area to oncoming traffic. It occurred at Crystal Falls and Highway 183, and there were no reports of serious injuries as a result.

Police were prompted to issue an advisory via their Facebook page, urging motorists to slow down in light of the current conditions.

“We are currently experiencing some heavy rain,” police wrote. “We ask that you drive to the conditions,” they added, meaning to slow down given slick roadways.

Heavy rainfall in Leander is causing stormwater runoff onto streets, increasing the potential for danger.

“Water is pooling and running off the roadways and some areas of deep pooling along the edges of the roadways,” police wrote. “Be aware of hyrdo-planing, as it can cause you to lose control and cause a wreck.”

Law enforcement officials want everyone to be safe and avoid traveling if at all possible.

“Be safe, drive carefully and courteously,” they wrote via social media. “You are important to us.”
