Latest Cedar Park Mosquito Sample Is Negative For West Nile Virus
After handful of positive samples, follow-up near brush and collection pond behind HEB Center at Avenue of the Stars tests negative.

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — A follow-up sampling of mosquitoes taken at an expanded trapping site near brush and a collection pond behind HEB Center has tested negative for West Nile virus, city officials said Monday.
The sampling site is located at 2114 Avenue of the Stars. Health District and city officials are hopeful continued cool temperatures are helping kill some of the weaker mosquitoes and help reduce the their population, officials said in a press advisory.
This testing was conducted as part of the City of Cedar Park’proactive participation in the Williamson County and Cities Health District’s mosquito management program, officials said. Testing was conducted at a Texas Department of State Health Services lab in Austin.

"The city has been diligently working to drain and treat standing water from this week’s rainfall," officials explained in a press advisory. "Mosquitoes cannot breed without standing water. The city thanks residents for their hard work in draining and treating standing water at their own homes. However, the City and Health District strongly encourage everyone to remain vigilant about protecting themselves from mosquito bites and preventing mosquito breeding on their personal property – especially considering last week’s rainfall and the rainfall that is forecast for this week."
No reported human cases of West Nile virus in Cedar Park have been reported this year, officials said. The last time a a reported human case of illness caused by the West Nile virus was in 2016. For more information on the West Nile virus, visit www.wcchd.org or www.txwestnile.org.
