Leander City Council Expected To Pass Tax Rate during Its Regular Meeting
What's proposed is a slight decrease, but homeowners tax bills are still going to increase given soaring property values.

LEANDER, TX -- Leander City Council members were scheduled to vote on the city's tax rate Monday -- a scheduled slight decrease from last fiscal year despite the likelihood that rising property values are expected to increase homeowners' property tax bills.
Leander is proposing a tax rate of $0.599 per $100 valuation for the upcoming 2016-17 fiscal year, which is a decrease of $0.03392 from last fiscal year's rate of $0.63292. A vote on the proposed rate was scheduled to occur at tonight's council meeting.
Yet despite the decrease, property tax bills are expected to increase in light of soaring property values, as officials have previously explained.

In June, Williamson Central Appraisal District officials disclosed the average market value of a home in the county had risen by 9.5 percent from the previous year. The average market value of a home jumped from $241,860 last year to $253,819, the appraisal district reported.
The county tax rate currently being mulled mirrors the city's in its dichotomy. While Williamson County Commissioners Court are poised to adopt a slightly lowered tax rate from the one in the prior fiscal year, rising property values will still have a sticker-shock characteristic to it, with an expected average increase of $7.40 per month given ever-increasing property values in the high-growth area.
