Leander First-Ever 'Pet Fur Fest' Scheduled On Saturday

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, attendees can adopt animals, micro-chip and vaccinate their pets, have fun with four-legged pals.

LEANDER, TX — Saturday is the day for the first-ever "Pet Fur Fest" to be staged in Leander.

Organized by the Leander Police Department, the event will feature pet adoptions, micro-chipping, vaccinations and more for attendees' four-legged buddies. A number of groups will have animals up for adoption, including the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, Petco, Central SPCA, Austin Dog Rescue, Lil Paws Maltese Rescue and others.

Leander residency will have its privileges, as those living in the city will be able to get free micro-chipping for their pets. For non-residents, the price is $5. Also available will be low-cost rabies, Bordetella and DHPP/FVRCP pet vaccinations.

Vendors on hand will include Petco; Tomlinson's, Firehouse Vet; Hill Country Feed; Wildlife Rescue; Poochie Trends Truck (gourmet pet treats); LPD Explorers snack/drink tent (treats for humans); and more.

A kiddie area will be set up with face painting and pet rock adoption enabling attendees to make their own pet rock. There also will be a pet-owner look-alike contest, treats for participating pets and giveaways. Important note: If you go, organizers ask that all pets be kept on a leash.

So let your hair down and let the fur fly, folks. The event takes place at the Kohl's parking lot located at 1245 S. Highway 183 on Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
