Leander ISD Honors Nonprofit For Helping Staff With English Proficiency

Community Action Inc. helps custodians who want to improve their English-language skills with classes held each Saturday.

LEANDER, TX -- A prominent nonprofit organization providing linguistic instruction for key Leander ISD personnel was recently awarded $50,000 to continue to enhance that important mission.

During the Leander ISD March 3 meeting, the Community Action Inc. of Central Texas Adult Education Program was recognized for receiving $50,000 to continue their adult education program in the school district. The funds came by virtue of the 2015 Employer Partnership Award from the Texas Workers Commission.

In 2014, LISD's custodial services department launched a collaboration with Community Action to enable participating district custodians to improve their English proficiency. The Leander English for Custodians program offers classes to all interested custodians on Saturdays.
