Leander ISD Officials Tap Kerrville Superintendent To Head Its Schools

Dan Troxell has a lengthy resume in education, including a former stint at the Round Rock ISD.

LEANDER, TX -- The school district board of trustees on Wednesday announced that Kerrville ISD Superintendent Dan Troxell is the lone finalist to lead the Leander ISD as its superintendent.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am excited to welcome Dan Troxell to Leander ISD," board president Will Streit said in a prepared statement. "As the lone finalist for the superintendent position, Dr. Troxell brings experience leading student success through a focus on academic achievement and whole-student development."

Streit noted Troxell's focus on community engagement was among the attributes that led to his selection.

“Dr. Troxell also knows that community engagement is key to a district’s growth and success, and he will build on our strong ties with students, teachers and parents," Streit said. "We believe that Dr. Troxell will continue to propel LISD forward though our culture of focusing on student learning.”

Troxell replaces former superintendent of schools Bret Champion, who left the district to accept a position in the Houston area. Champion had been superintendent since 2008.

Troxell is currently serving in his 14th year as superintendent of the Kerrville ISD. According to a bio provided by Leander ISD officials: Troxell was was named Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards in 2008; awarded the 2006 Region 20 Advocate of the Gifted and led KISD to numerous awards and accolades; began his career as a middle school teacher before transitioning into school administration as a middle school and high school assistant principal, and later as a high school principal.

Prior to his tenure at Kerrville ISD, Troxell served in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, Allen ISD and Round Rock ISD. He and his wife, Shelley, have two sons.

Leander ISD officials noted that under state law, a school board must wait 21 days between naming a lone finalist and issuing an employment contract. The Board expects to issue a contract to the lone finalist on or after the 21-day wait period.
