Leander Picked As Democratic Party Convention Site
This year's convention is slated to take place at Leander High School on Saturday, March 24.

LEANDER, TX — The Williamson County Democratic Party has picked Leander as the site for its upcoming county convention, officials said.
This year's convention is slated to take place at Leander High School on Saturday, March 24. Registration for the convention is open to Williamson County Democrats who voted in the Primary Election on March 6, 2018, or who filed an oath of affiliation, party officials said via a press advisory.
Registration can be completed on-line through the Williamson County Democratic Party website, and sign-in will begin at 8 a.m. on March 24, with the convention will be called to order at 10 a.m. Delegates seated from the county’s 94 precincts will debate policy resolutions, hear from the party’s nominees for office, and elect 176 delegates to the party’s state convention to be staged in Fort Worth, Texas, officials said.

“Enthusiasm is extremely high both here in Wilco and across Texas," Democratic Party Chair Kim Gilby said. "Williamson County native Mike Collier’s performance against Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is really just
evidence of what we’re feeling on the ground here at the grassroots level.”
Collier secured the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in the recent primary election, earning the endorsement of incumbent Republican Dan Patrick's primary opponent on Facebook. Moreover, voters in Travis County preferred Collier over Patrick by a 3-to-1 margin, according to post-election data.

“You can officially call this a close race," Collier said immediately after clinching the Democratic nomination. "The data shows that Texans are clearly unhappy with our opponent. Despite spending millions to secure his nomination, Texas supports change in the Lt. Governor’s office.”
The Collier campaign made note of one endorsement in particular: That of Republican Scott Milder, who ran against Patrick in the Republican ticket: “I will be casting my vote for Mike Collier, the rational Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor, and will strongly encourage all Texans who voted for me in this race to cast their votes for Collier as well," Milder wrote on Facebook.
