LEANDER, TX — Police continue to investigate after a dispute between neighbors led to shots being fired in the Westview Meadows area of the city on Wednesday night, officials said.

"Investigation is still ongoing and no arrests at this time, but police believe the incident to be isolated and no threat to the public," police said Thursday morning.

The incident caused alarm among residents last night, many of whom aired their concerns on Twitter amid a lack of real-time information on the incident by the police department. Residents reported the full breadth of police response to the site, including SWAT teams, a police helicopter and police canines dispatched to the scene.

By around 10 a.m. on Thursday, police issued a press release with some details.

"On Sept. 11, 2019, at around 8:30 p.m., police responded to a report of shots being fired near the 500 block of Emma Rose," police wrote. "Upon arrival, officers learned that an argument started between two neighbors in the 900 block of Parkhurst Drive earlier in the evening and it continued into the area of Emma Rose Trail and Mason Street."

As the argument escalated, police said the suspect fire two shots in the direction of his neighbor. The shots missed their target before the suspect fled on foot headed northbound, officials added.

At this point, the police arsenal was utilized to locate the suspect who was believed to be barricaded inside a home at Emma Rose. Given that the suspect was armed, a robot was used to breach the entrance of the home after unsuccessful attempts to coax the suspect out. However, law enforcement officials said, the suspect was not found when police gained entry into the building.

Although an arrest has yet to be made, police assured there is no threat to the public. When police use this sort of language, it's meant to suggest such disturbances are isolated to a suspect and victim rather than being random in nature.

This is a developing story. Patch will update when more information is known.
