Leander Traffic Stop Nets Fugitive

Brandon Alan Smith, 36, taken into custody the day after he fled police, had an existing parole violation warrant, sheriff's office said.

LEANDER, TX — A recent traffic stop in Leander led to the capture of a fugitive from justice, officials said Thursday.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said a deputy conducted a Feb. 20 traffic stop in Leander before the suspect fled after failing to identify himself. The suspect was later located and identified as Brandon Alan Smith, 36.

Smith was taken into custody at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, a sheriff's office spokesperson said via email. The man was booked into the Williamson County Jail, charged with evading in a vehicle and failure to identify. Officials didn't disclose the nature of Smith's criminal history, but said he had an existing parole violation warrant.
