Leander Ushers In Baseball Fields At Benbrook Ranch Park

Four fields will accommodate growing participation in youth baseball leagues.

LEANDER, TX -- Let’s play ball!

Leander city officials invite residents to the grand opening of the Benbrook Ranch Park baseball fields this coming Saturday. The opening is the culmination of a years-long plans to create the amenity in light growing youth baseball participation.

Leander City Council approved plans to create the baseball fields back in 2012 as part of a contract for park improvements design, the Austin American-Statesman reported at the time.

The fields will be ushered in grand fashion. Music, food and games will be part of the festivities, along with an inaugural “first pitch,” a rendition of the National Anthem and special guests, according to a city advisory.

Also on hand will be little league sponsors A sculpture to some of baseball’s most historic venues also will be unveiled, officials said.

City officials selected Austin-based landscape architecture firm Luck Design Team to design the four ball field at the park, awarding the company a $101,325 contract as the Statesman reported then. Once designed, the city spent more money to build the facilities from money in the parkland dedication fund, which bore some $600,000 at the time, the newspaper reported.
