Longtime Cedar Park High School Girls Basketball Coach Abruptly Resigns, Citing Stress

'I'm done coaching, at least for now,' Mark Myers told a newspaper. 'It's the stress, 'I can't eat, I can't sleep. I need a break."

CEDAR PARK, TX — The longtime coach of the Cedar Park High School girls basketball team abruptly quit while citing overwhelming stress, district officials said Tuesday.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Mark Myers, 55, resigned effective immediately, citing stress as well as personal reasons. Last month, the coach had indicated the 2016-17 season would be his final one leading the Timberwolves.

Myers arrived at the school in 2000, earning his 800th career victory last season. He has been a high school coach for 34 years, and quits as the team is off to a strong 7-1 start this season, the Statesman noted.

Myers, who taught world history, also indicated he wouldn't be teaching at Cedar park either: "I'm done coaching, at least for now," he told the Statesman. "It's the stress. I can't eat, I can't sleep. I need a break."

Just this week, Cedar Park was ranked ninth in the Class 5A girls state poll released by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
