Major Road-Enhancing Project Well Under Way

Project includes widening of Old 2243 from two lanes to five.

CEDAR PARK-LEANDER, TX -- Major road work has begun on Leander roadways that will widen street lanes and install sidewalks among other enhancements.

An earlier notice to proceed was sent to contractors earlier this month. Temporary signs alerting to the construction has since been installed.

The work centers on Old Farm to Market Road 2243, which is being widened from two lanes to five from Lakeline Boulevard to U.S. 183.

The project includes construction of sidewalks, curbs, gutters and utility relocations. The project is expected to be completed by fall of next year.

At least one lane in each direction will remain open during the project’s duration. Some road closures in the vicinity may be required during construction phases.

City officials will utilize electronic message boards and the municipal website to apprise residents to road closures a week ahead of time.

Funding for the project is derived from a mix of city and Williamson County sources.
