- Following Friday's Austin-area wildfires, Williamson County issued an Order declaring a temporary ban on outdoor burning. The Order was declared due to dry vegetation, wind, and imminent threat of severe damage. Violating the Order will result in a criminal offense, which is punishable by a fine that does not exceed $1,000 or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed 180 days. (Press Release Desk)
- Yesterday morning, the City of Leander held its first Martin Luther King Day parade and street festival to honor Rev. Dr. King. The free community event was centered around the theme of "Community Unity – Bright and Bold," and organizers told KXAN they were pleased with the turnout. (KXAN)
- Leander Independent School District, the fastest-growing school district in the Austin metro area, is looking to rezone its school districts to better distribute its resources. The rezoning is an attempt to balance school attendance to help maximize the use of existing buildings and to delay the need to build future school buildings.
