Reminder For Williamson County Residents: Tax Collector's Office Closed On Friday

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Officials at the tax assessor/collector's office reminds property owners wishing to pay their property taxes this year for federal tax purposes that the office will be closed this Friday.

In observance of New Year's Day, the office will close on Dec. 30. Many property owners wait to pay their property taxes by Dec. 31 so they can include the payment as a deduction in calculating their federal income taxes for that year.

But due to the imminent closure, anyone wishing to pay in person and claim the payment on their 2016 federal income taxes must do so before Thursday, December 29. Additionally, because the United States Postal Service is closed Jan. in observance of New Year's Day, any payments postmarked on or before January 3rd will be posted as being paid in 2016, officials noted.

Taxpayers are encouraged to avoid long lines at the tax office by taking advantage of one of several other options:

• Payments can be sent by USPS. Mailed payments should be sent to 904 S. Main St., Georgetown, TX, 78626. Taxpayers are encouraged to request from the post office a receipt or certificate of mailing to show proof of delivery.
• Payments can be made online by going to www.wilco.org/paytaxes and searching for your property. Credit card and e-checks are accepted, but incur additional vendor fees.
• Payments can be placed in the drop box located to the right of the entrance door at the Georgetown tax office.
• If you must come to an office, reduce your wait time by almost 90% by going online to make a same day appointment by clicking here.
