Texas Rep. John Bucy III Launches School Supplies Drive
Elected to represent HD 136 earlier this year, lawmaker is coordinating with Leander ISD and Round Rock ISD to collect school materials.
ROUND ROCK, TX — It's been said all politics are local. One lawmaker is giving the sentiment new meaning — in decidedly apolitical fashion — by spearheading a school supplies drive for children in House District 136 that will surely have a measurable local impact.
"Education’s the foundation of a strong state, strong communities, & strong citizens," Rep. John Bucy III wrote on Twitter. "But for many of our neighbors, going back to school can be a challenge. That's why I'm asking for your help to collect backpacks & supplies for kids in HD 136."
A businessman by profession, Bucy previously served as chair of the Williamson County Democratic Party, and has been a member of the Texas House of Representatives as of this year. The expansive HD 136 he represents straddles Northwest Austin, Cedar Park, Leander, Jollyville and the Brushy Creek areas.

The school supplies drive runs through Aug. 16. Bucy said his staff has been coordinating with Leander ISD and Round Rock ISD officials to gauge what the most-needed items are. Supplies also can be dropped off at Bucy's office at the state Capitol, he said. Those wishing to donate also can do so via an Amazon wish list that has been set up for the collection drive.
