Texas Tech University adds new Raider Escape Room
New functional fitness training facilities for staff and students

Texas Tech University has upcycled several unused racquetball courts into a cool, new, cutting edge functional fitness training facility--the Raider Escape Room--adding an unparalleled training experience to its student recreation center for staff and students.
Debuting last month, the Raider Escape Room is a 40’X40’ small group functional training, personal training and athletic and sports conditioning facility decked in Texas Tech’s official red, black and white. With a 1,600 sq. ft. floor and a 5’ x 20’ Speed Track for Escape Quad Sled and TIYR use, this facility is above and beyond anything else offered in the student rec center, or even in Lubbock.
The first university in Texas to designate an entire room to Escape’s functional training equipment and frame, it boasts a 15’ Octagon Hub Training System frame with three Hub Storage Walls and additional equipment including Plyosoft Boxes, TIYR, Corebags, Bulgarian Bags, Sandbags, Core Momentum Trainers, GRIPRs, Vertballs, Slamballs, Medballs, Kettlebells, and a Speed Resister.

The vision of Texas Tech’s Rec Center Director, PeeWee Roberson, the Raider Escape Room upcycles two of 12 racquetball courts into exciting, inviting and entirely usable spaces. Texas Tech also converted an additional two of the courts into an indoor cycle zone. Partnering with Escape Fitness and Marathon Fitness, the end goal was to develop a more private, unique workout area different from the traditional strength and cardio machines/equipment. A space that works as well for personal trainers as for small group training that was fun and engaging while offering the freedom to train without disrupting weight or cardio room users.
“Students want to have fun while getting fit. They’ve grown up paying hyper-attention to every detail of their surroundings. Our team wanted to bring high visual impact to the Raider Escape Room’s functional fitness training initiative by creating a colorful, dynamic place where they’d want to spend time--with the best trainers,” said Christopher Eyre, West Coast Account Executive, Escape Fitness. “For Texas Tech to offer this area, solely designed for functional training, is exciting for everyone.”
