But the officers weren't looking for traffic law scofflaws, but instead patrolled the roadways searching for unsuspecting kids to bestow them with holiday gifts. The idea was hatched over lunch last year, explained <a href="http://www.fox7austin.com/news/local-news/61108828-story" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">Fox 7 News</a>. The traffic officers participating in that inaugural session of gift-giving enjoyed it so much, they decided to make it an annual tradition. One Cedar Park mom was especially grateful, as she was already somewhat stressed as she took her young son to get his teeth checked."We're actually on the way to a doctor's appointment, so for him it's great," Constance Philips told a Fox 7 reporter. "He's looking forward to Christmas, and he was just talking about being good."Officer Matthew Baran expressed the fulfillment derived from this special tactical operation: "It's nice to see their faces, their expressions, once they get the gifts. That gives us a lot of joy to see that."Not that is an arresting bit of insight.
