Upcoming Council Meeting Showcases Municipal Growth
Rezoning for retail and installation of city logos throughout town to be considered.

CEDAR PARK-LEANDER, TX -- This week’s Cedar Park City Council meeting showcases the community’s continuing growth and increased visibility, with scheduled action items aimed at re-zoning for more retail space and installation of new civic logos strategically placed in high-traffic parts of the city.
At the next regular meeting scheduled Thursday, Cedar Park council members will likely approve an ordinance to rezone more than 13 acres of land from general office zoning to general retail. The tract is located at the northeast corner of East Whitestone Boulevard and Arrow Point Drive.
Concurrently, council members also will discuss acceptance of a future land use plan that would involve construction of high-density residential units in the same area of the targeted rezoning. The plan for such housing is targeted in the southwest corner of East Whitestone Boulevard and Arrow Point Drive.

In the last several months, Cedar Park officials have put special focus on increasing the community’s business base as the city grows. The scheduled rezoning--the second reading of the proposed ordinance--is an extension of that goal.
Last month, the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission unanimously approved several zoning changes to allow for retail and office space. The moves came amid calls from Mayor Matt Powell to develop more commercial space in the community 16 miles southeast of Austin that’s experiencing a brisk growth.

As the city increases its profile as a bustling community, council members will also entertain the idea of installing city logos at various intersections of town as well as discussing their design. The new signs would be paid by a municipal community development corporation with funding not to exceed $300,000.
This week’s council meeting is scheduled to take place at Cedar Park City Hall chambers located at 450 Cypress Creek Rd. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
