Utility Officials Advise Leander Residents Of Planned Natural Gas Flares
Atmos Energy workers will set off controlled flares for the next there days and again on June 30 to burn off natural gas.

LEANDER, TX -- Energy utility officials will burn off excess natural gas starting Tuesday morning, setting off a series of flares that will be visible across the horizon, according to a press release.
The controlled flares will begin at 8 a.m. on June 21, and continue the 23rd and resume on Jan. 30, Atmos Energy officials said. Each burning will last about six hours each morning, company officials added.
The flaring location will be on the west side of Ronald Reagan Boulevard, just south of the South Fork San Gabriel River. The company will be performing routine inspections and testing on a section of natural gas pipeline in the area as part of its normal maintenance operations, officials said.

Company officials define "flaring" as a standard industry practice designed to safely burn off natural gas for removal so crews can work on the pipe. Those living in the area can expect to see a large, controlled flame and experience "moderate" noise for three to four hours every day.
Local emergency functions -- the Leander Fire Department, the sheriff's office, police, 911 operators -- and city officials have been apprised of the flares ahead of time.
