The city of Cedar Park allows you to see exactly what your property tax dollars are being used for.

CEDAR PARK, TX - Ever wonder where your property tax dollars are going? Well now you can find out. Cedar Park has an extremely user-friendly website that gives you a breakdown of exactly what your money is being used for.

The city of Cedar Park’s tax rate is made up of two components: the M&O and I&S. M&O stands for maintenance and operations. This is what “keeps the city running” by funding day-to-day operations such as the police and fire departments, library, and other city services.

The I&S stands for interest and sinkings. This is used to pay off debt that is issued by the City to fund capital projects like roads and facilities.

An example of an M&O portion of the tax rate for a $200,000 appraised property value would be: $377 (53 percent) spent on public safety; $149 (21 percent) on public works and development; $87 (12.2 percent) on culture and recreation; $67 (9.4 percent) on support services; and $31 (4.4 percent) on administration.

For a $400,000 appraised property the breakdown would be: $503 (53.1 percent) on public safety; $199 (21 percent) on public works and developments; $116 (12.2 percent) on culture and recreation; $89 (9.4 percent) on support services; and $41 (4.3 percent) on administration.

Property tax rates have decreased for the third consecutive year, primarily due to significant business growth in the city. More businesses mean more jobs, and more places to dine and shop locally. The sales taxes that are collected from these transactions adds up and helps offset the costs of city services.

When someone shops or dines in Cedar Park, 2 cents of every dollar spent is recycled back into the city.

“It helps fund our parks, roads, and other city services. Plus it helps bring better quality, higher paying jobs to Cedar Park. It helps keep our property tax rate low and our quality of life high. Make sure you ‘Got it in Cedar Park.’ This year, sales tax brought in $11 million to our General Fund budget,” the city website stated.
