Williamson County DA Reopens Greg Kelley Sex Assault Case, New Suspect Named
Lawyer of man accused of sexually assaulting four-year-old boy blames Cedar Park Police Department for his client's predicament.

CEDAR PARK, TX — The Williamson County District Attorney's Office is reopening the sexual assault case of Greg Kelley—a 2013 case that shocked residents after the then-senior was accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old boy at a Cedar Park daycare center.
But now, the DA's office is suggesting they convicted the wrong man. A second suspect, Johnathan McCarty has emerged. While he has yet to be charged in the alleged sexual assault, McCarty was arrested Thursday on a probation violation related to a drug charge leading to his detention under a $450,000 bail, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
McCarty's mom ran the in-home daycare center where the child was allegedly abused, the same place where McCarty was living at the time, according to the DA's office. Kelly would also stayed at the home for months at at time.

DA Shawn Dick told the Statesman the Texas Rangers have reviewed evidence in recent weeks suggesting someone other than Kelley allegedly sexually assaulted the boy—findings initially brought to him by Kelley’s defense team.
“I thought it was credible enough to ask for an independent investigation and to bring the Texas Rangers in,” he told the Statesman in an interview. “If we got it wrong, we need to do everything we can to make it right. And if we got it right, we need to be transparent so that the public understands we got the right person.”

According to a court document referenced by the Statesman, investigators recently discovered photos of children—including one of a nude child between four to six years old—on McCarty's cell phone. A search of his home computer yielded more such photos and evidence of frequent visits to porn sites, the newspaper reported.
Kelley's attorney, Keith Hampton, on Thursday told teh newspaper that he blames the Cedar Park Police Department for his client's ordeal. Detectives at the police force never interviewed McCarty in their original investigation, he told the newspaper.
"A lot of this evidence, I tried to give to the last administration and they didn't want to hear it," Hampton told the newspaper. The former DA whose office prosecuted the case, Jana Duty, didn't respond to a request for comment, the Statesman reported.
