Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter Celebrating Ten Years Of Life-Saving Service

To mark milestone, adult dogs and cats can be adopted for just $10 from March 13 to 19 and a community celebration is set for

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — Since 2007, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has devoted 3,653 days of animal care, have effected 34,300 adoptions, reunited 9,950 with their owners and found homes for a small herd of rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, flocks of chickens, roosters, ducks, a plethora of lizards, snakes, and tortoises and one kangaroo.

On March 14, the shelter celebrates its 10th anniversary. The facility opened its doors to lost and abandoned animals of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Williamson County in 2007. In order for shelter staff workers to celebrate, the shelter will close one hour early at 5 p.m. on March 14.

Given the traditional tin to mark a tenth anniversary, shelter officials plan to "shake the can" in soliciting donations or cans of dog and cat food for the shelter. And on March 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the shelter will host a community anniversary party open to members of the public to help celebrate and learn about the shelter, volunteering, and fostering.

Workers also will collect any donations that have been raised at the party, including those for the shelter expansion fund.

To further celebrate the 10th anniversary, the shelter will feature $10 adoptions for all adult cats and dogs starting on March 13 through March 19. Puppies and kittens will be $75 to adopt.

Cheryl Schneider, Williamson County animal services director, expressed her appreciation for the community support for the shelter since its founding. “It is with our community members, our volunteers, fosters, staff, donors, adopters and supporters that we have reached such milestones as serving the animals for 10 years and serving the animals with a no-kill status for the past 6 years. We are looking forward to what the future holds.”

In "shaking the can," shelter officials have various events scheduled to help ensure the same high level of life-saving for the shelter in the years to come. Among these events (some already mentioned) are:
