Williamson County To Stage 'Learn To Fish Day' On April 1
No pre-registration is required and fishing gear will be provided for children to learn to fish in event that's free and open to the public.
WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TX — April 1 isn't just a day to play pranks but to learn to fish.
Williamson County is hosting "Learn to Fish Day" in the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park, 3005 CR 175, this Saturday, April 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. The event is free and open to the public, designed for children of all ages to spend time learning various fishing tips and techniques from seasoned fishermen.
The day's objective is simple: To catch and release a fish. The use of basic tackle, appropriate bait selection, knot tying, boat casting, conservation ethics and general outdoor/water safety are among the topics scheduled to be covered. Additional activities such as "backyard bass" also will help participants to hone their fishing skills.

Given the array of planned activities, county officials ask participants to spend at least one hour to fully enjoy the event. Early arrival is recommended in order to gain the most from the program. Participants also are asked to leave their own fishing gear at home, as fishing poles and tackle will be provided.
Those wishing to participate are urged to wear loose, comfortable clothing, a hat or visor and shoes other than flip flops. The use of insect repellent is strongly urged, as is sun block.

The idea of the event is to inspire youth and families to engage in the great sport of fishing as a lifelong pursuit. No pre-registration is required, and participants will be asked to complete a simple card to particiate upon their arrival at the park.
Williamson County’s Learn to Fish Day is funded through the donations of nearly a dozen private individuals and corporations.
