📰 News we're reading

1. Conroe council members say they received threats after Flock Safety ballot vote (click2houston.com) — Conroe residents are grappling with rising tensions after the City Council voted on August 13 not to place a Flock Safety license plate reader camera proposition on the November ballot, and two council members say they've since received threats and harassment. Officials emphasize residents' rights to disagree and pursue recalls but draw a firm line at threats against them and their families.

2. Montgomery County approves law enforcement overtime, advances flood and road projects (communityimpact.com) — Montgomery County leaders just approved extra Labor Day overtime for law enforcement, including marine patrols on Lake Conroe, while keeping departments within budget. They also moved forward on debris-removal flood projects along San Jacinto tributaries and awarded a nearly $6 million contract to widen and improve drainage on Decker Prairie and Hardin Store roads, shaping safety and infrastructure for Conroe-area residents.

3. The Woodlands Township slates $600K for sports facility study (communityimpact.com) — The Woodlands Township board has earmarked $600,000 in its 2027 budget to study a possible indoor, air-conditioned sportsplex that could be built in a township park in partnership with Conroe ISD. If it moves forward, the facility could give Conroe-area students and teams more year‑round practice space for soccer, football, lacrosse, band and other activities.

4. 'Couldn't find a school': Why only 76% of Texas' school voucher recipients have used them (star-telegram.com) — A Conroe ISD parent who qualified for over $30,000 in Texas school voucher funds ultimately turned it down after struggling to find nearby private schools that could handle her children's dyslexia and transportation needs. Her experience highlights how many families around Conroe and across Texas are finding vouchers hard to use despite the promise of extra education funding.
