Encompass Health plans expansion with new hospitals in Conroe, The Woodlands (houstonchronicle.com) — Conroe residents can expect a new 24-bed Encompass Health rehabilitation hospital, operating as a satellite of The Woodlands facility and targeted to open in late 2027 along I-45. The small-format hospital will provide 24-hour care for patients recovering from strokes, brain and spinal injuries, amputations and other serious conditions, expanding access to specialized rehab services for communities north of Houston.
2. Conroe moves Christmas light display downtown for new walk-through experience (houstonchronicle.com) — Conroe is moving its popular Christmas light display from Candy Cane Park to a new walk-through trail at Founders Plaza downtown, running Dec. 1–26 on December weekends. Backed by a renewed contract with The Christmas Kings and partnerships with the Downtown Conroe Association, the expanded festivities will include the Dec. 12 parade and Christmas Around the Square to draw visitors into local shops and restaurants.
3. Discount Property Partners Choice Investment Properties LTD Ken Helper Texas Investment Network LLC, Rented an unsafe house from them with major unresolved repair issues, including mold throughout the (ripoffreport.com) — A renter on Ravensworth Drive in Conroe describes moving into a house in mid-August and soon discovering mold throughout the HVAC system, plus persistent plumbing failures and other unresolved issues. The tenant alleges management misrepresented mold test results, acknowledged a positive swab only after legal pressure, and has urged them to move out instead of arranging professional remediation or fully fixing basic services.
4. Conroe Animal Shelter reshapes under new leadership (communityimpact.com) — Conroe's city-run animal shelter, now overseen by the Police Department and a new operations manager, has boosted its live release rate to over 92% while sharply reducing euthanasia. With a $1.7 million budget, new foster and day-out programs, and $428,750 in planned renovations, staff are prioritizing Conroe taxpayers' pets while still helping nearby communities like Willis when space allows.
5. Conroe approves up to $25K to pursue U.S. Space Academy (communityimpact.com) — Conroe City Council has approved up to $25,000 for consultants and staff work to prepare a formal bid to host the proposed U.S. Space Academy, potentially at Deison Technology Park. Officials say the project could reshape Conroe's economy through aerospace and technology partnerships, but this first step simply tests whether the city can realistically compete in the state and federal selection process.
