Death threats against Conroe mayor, city council prompts investigation (yourconroenews.com) β Conroe residents should know police are investigating online death threats made against the mayor and several City Council members amid controversy over the city's use of Flock license plate reader cameras. Tensions have escalated since council funded the system in the 2027 budget and declined to put its future on the November ballot, with supporters citing crime-fighting benefits and critics raising privacy concerns.

Conroe approves arts grants and Owen Theatre sign replacement (communityimpact.com) β Conroe residents will see $195,000 in new arts and cultural grants plus a $65,000 upgrade to the Owen Theatre's digital marquee signs, all funded through hotel occupancy taxes. Cooking oil spill: I-45 reopens near Woodlands after truck fire, spill (yourconroenews.com) β If you commute between Conroe and The Woodlands, southbound I-45 is back open after a truck fire spilled more than 5,000 gallons of cooking oil and backed traffic up to Texas 105 in Conroe. TxDOT crews cleared the slick mess from the main lanes and drainage area, and officials say no one was hurt and there's no ongoing hazard to drivers.
