Elementary Students Become Ill After Taking Insulin Medication

SPLENDORA, TX — Several Splendora ISD elementary school students were taken to an area hospital after school district officials said they took medication that one of the students brought from home.

According to a KPRC report, a student brought time-released diabetic insulin medication from home and passed some of it out to fellow students.

School district officials said police and emergency service personnel were called when they saw students suddenly becoming ill, KPRC reported.

The school nurse was able to treat the students until help arrived.

Each of the students were taken to a local emergency room by their parents.

Meanwhile, Splendora ISD released a statement a that called this an isolated incident.

Splendora ISD issued the following statement:
“Parents, today an incident occurred on one of our elementary campuses where a student brought prescription medication from home and distributed it to several classmates...We commend the elementary staff for responding so quickly to identify the students affected and for contacting their parents. The safety of our students is our top priority and we ask for your help in speaking with your child about the dangers of taking any unknown substance. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this situation."

All of the students are expected to recover.
