Houston’s Winter Storm: Area Freeways Impacted By Ice Storm

HOUSTON, TX — Road closures are high on everyone Houstonians mind today after an arctic front that followed light rain overnight froze roads and freeways over early Tuesday.

So far, ice has caused closures or disruptions at more than 20 locations around the city, and that has contributed to dozens of traffic accidents that included two that occured within minutes of each other on U.S. 290 near Jersey Village, and a three-car accident at FM 1960 and State Highway 249 in Spring.

At least one of those accident resulted in one death, when a driver suffering from chest pains died at the scene.

Those closures are at:

Interstate 10

• Eastbound at Main St
• Westbound at I-45
• Eastbound at Pin Oak in Fort Bend County
• In Katy at Westbound Grand Parkway exit ramp
• SH-99 GRAND PARKWAY - West Northbound At IH-10 KATY

Law enforcement officials in Harris County urged motorist to use extreme condition.
