Howard Hughes Corp. Announces The Woodlands Hills Community

WILLIS, TX — The Howard Hughes Corporation and The Woodlands Development Corporation announced details about the 2,000 acre community, dubbed The Woodlands Hills during a special presentation June 26.

The new master-planned community, which is under development just north of Conroe, will include more than 4,500 homes, 112 acres of open space, 20 neighborhood parks and a village park, a retail village center, extensive hike and bike trails and dedicated bike lanes.

The sprawling community will fall within several jurisdictions, including the Conroe city limits, the Willis city limits and the Willis Independent School District.

Tim Welbes, Co-President of The Woodlands Development Corporation said the goal is to develop this community with the same high standards as The Woodlands and Bridgeland, located in Cypress in northwest Houston, Community Impact News reported.

The new community is already being hailed as a harbinger of growth by civic and school district leaders.

Both Conroe Mayor Toby Powell and Willis City Manager Hector Forestier said the new community, which will also include retail establishments, will provide an economic boost to the region, according to a Houston Chronicle report.

Meanwhile, the Willis Independent School District was already preparing for what may come, approving of a bond referendum in 2015 that will fund the construction of a career and technology center, and an elementary school.

The first homes in The Woodlands Hills are expected to be built in 2018.
