Hurricane Harvey: Montgomery County Schools Watch and Wait To Consider School Closures

Magnolia ISD may delay start of school on Monday, while Willis, Montgomery and Conroe consider cancelling classes

CONROE, TX — Some school districts in Montgomery County are expected to be open for business as usual, as Hurricane Harvey moves toward the coast, with the exception of Montgomery ISD, which will close at 1 p.m.

School districts in Houston and Galveston have been monitoring the category 1 hurricane for several days, and on Thursday, several districts including Houston ISD, Galveston ISD, Alvin, La Porte ISD announced they were cancelling classes Friday, and would evaluate for Monday over the weekend. Montgomery ISD, Conroe ISD and Willis ISD all announced on their webpages that they are monitoring Hurricane Harvey in the Gulf and would consider class cancellations over the weekend.

All districts will have classes on Friday, for at least half the day.

Magnolia ISD, which is the western section of Montgomery County, is scheduled for the start of school on Monday.

Officials will monitor Hurricane Harvey and the potential flooding over the weekend before deciding whether or not to delay the start of school.
