Man Arrested After Threatening to Blow Up Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office

Deputies said suspect asked passerby to help turn his van into a bomb.

CONROE, TX --A man who allegedly asked a passerby to help him turn his van into a bomb so he could blow up the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is in the Montgomery County Jail.

Investigators said that Danyal Arafat was working on his van in the parking lot at College Park Drive and Interstate 45 at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when he reportedly handed a passerby money and asked them to go into the store and purchase shotgun shells and model rocket motors so he could finish making a bomb.

The passerby declined, but kept talking with Arafat as he contacted sheriff’s deputies, who arrived a short time later and arrested him while he was still under the hood of his van.

Deputies searched the van, but didn’t find any explosives.

Arafat was arrested and charged with felony terroristic threat.

Arafat reportedly suffers from a diminished mental capacity, and is well-known to deputies, officials said.

He is being held without bond.
