Liberty County Man Who Shot At Conroe Police Dies

Gregory Kocian, 33, was shot after he led police on a high-speed chase, and then fired several shots at a Conroe Police officer.

CONROE, TX — A Montgomery County man who was involved in a high-speed chase and shootout with police on Sunday morning, has died.

Gregory Kocian, 33, died Monday from wounds he sustained in a shootout with Conroe Police after he shot at officers during a high-speed chase.

The chase began Sunday morning when police were sent to Kasmiersky Park after receiving a call about a suspicious vehicle.

When police arrived, the Chevy Cavalier driven by Kocian, was leaving the park, and sped off at a high rate of speed onto Interstate 45.

Officers chased the Cavalier to Loop 336, and eventually to Sgt. Ed Holcomb Blvd., where he fired several shots at officers, before he was shot once in the head.

Kocian was taken to Conroe Regional Medical Center where he later died.

A passenger in the car was taken into custody and is being questioned, officials said.

Police also confiscated two handguns from the car, and were forced to mace a dog inside the car, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The dog is being held by animal control officials .

Kocian, who had a lengthy criminal past, was arrested in Match 2017 on charges he tortured and sexually assaulted a 44-year old woman in her home.

Kocian was held in the Montgomery County Jail with his bond set at $1 million.

He was released from jail in May 2017 when the charges were dismissed, and later filed a lawsuit against the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office alleging malicious prosecution and false imprisonment.

That lawsuit was later tossed out of court.
