New Years Eve Mishaps burned homes and vehicles throughout the Houston area while ringing in 2018
New Year’s Eve fireworks caused widespread damages in several incidents in the Houston area on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
In one instance, discarded fireworks burned one Tomball area home to the ground early on New Year’s Day.
That fire was reported at about 3 a.m. in the 21000 block of Country Cove Court.

Firefighters from the Rosehill Volunteer Fire Department, Tomball Fire Department and Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department battled the blaze for several hours before it was extinguished.
Investigators with the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office said someone tossed the remnants of fireworks into a trash can that may have been still too hot, causing the blaze.

No one was hurt in the fire.
Meanwhile, firefighters were busy in Montgomery County to a firework explosion at Damon Court at Tamina Road that started in a vehicle and spread to a nearby home, as well as a second fire at Honea Egypt Road and Red Oak Drive, where a garage was burned due to improperly discarded fireworks.
However, the biggest blast of the evening happened in southwest Houston, in the 14600 block of Beechnut near Highway 6 in the Mission Bend area, when someone tossed a lit firecracker in the open trunk of a Dodge Charger, which held several cartons of fireworks.
The fireworks in the trunk quickly ignited, causing the trunk of the car to erupt in flames.
Bystanders tried to close the trunk to extinguish the blaze, but the fire spread, causing extensive damage to the car.
No one was hurt.
