All six of Montgomery County's public school districts are opting into an extended USDA program for the 2021-22 school year.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — All six public school districts in Montgomery County are providing free meals to students for the 2021-22 school year under guidance issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Schools will provide all students with free breakfasts and lunches. Free or reduced-price lunches are usually based upon income requirements, but guidance from USDA is allowing schools to extend the program to all students for 2021-22.
The following school districts announced they are participating in the program:

Despite income requirements being waived this year, it is likely they will be reinstated for the 2022-23 school year. Officials in several school districts are encouraging participants in the free and reduced-price lunch program to fill out the forms for 2021-22 as normal. Filling out the usual forms will ensure eligible students will remain in the program for the first month of 2022-23 while that year's applications are being processed. The aggregate data provided by the forms also is used for federal grant and subsidy programs.
"This is a fabulous opportunity for all MISD families, and we are thrilled that all children can receive healthy meals, at no charge, every day," Montgomery ISD Child Nutrition Director Lena Neugebauer said in a news release. "We encourage our families to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure children are provided meals that empower them to flourish in the classroom."
