TxDOT Hosting Public Meetings On Proposed Widening Of 2920

TOMBALL, TX — The Texas Department of Transportation will host two public meetings this month on the proposed widening of FM 2920 between U.S. 290 in Waller and State Highway 249 in Tomball.

The first meeting will be held in an open house format, and will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Waller High School, with the second meeting on Thursday, Jan. 25 at Tomball High School.

Both meetings will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and are designed to gather public comments on the proposed widening, which may not happen for several years.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve traffic flow and increase mobility, and includes the following:

• Widen FM 2920 from a two-lane undivided roadway, to a four-lane divided roadway from Business US 290 to Cypress Rosehill Road
• Widen from a four-lane roadway with a continuous turning lane to a six-lane divided roadway from Cypress Rosehill to State Highway 249
• Add intermittent sidewalks and shared use lane to accommodate bicycles and foot traffic.

The meetings are planned as construction on the final phase of widening segments of U.S. 290 begin, with a targeted completion by the end of 2018.
Meanwhile, right-of-way and displacement requirements for the proposed 2920 project are still being determined at this time.
Written comments must be postmarked on or before Feb. 7 for those living near Waller and Feb 9, for those in the Tomball area, to be included in the official meeting record.
