Who's Open and Who's Not on Thanksgiving Day?

Some retailers opening late Thanksgiving Day for Pre-Black Friday Deals, others tell employees to enjoy the holiday

HOUSTON, TX -- To open, or not to open: That is the question
retailers in the Houston area considered this holiday season as a number
of retailers considered sacrificing a day of pre-Black Friday to allow
employees time with their families.

However, Walmart and Target are not among those retailers.

Walmart will unveil their Thanksgiving deals on their website, one
minute after midnight on Thanksgiving morning, with stores opening their
doors nationwide at 6 p.m.

Target will be doing the same, and has already been advertising those pre-Black Friday deals.

J.C. Penney, will also be launching its online Black Friday sales on
it’s website at JCPenney.com at midnight on Nov. 23, and will hand out
coupon totheifirst cusotmers in the stores when they open at 3 p.m. on
Thanksgiving Day.

Sears and K-Mart will open their doors at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day,
with a host of sale items and in-store promotions that include
discounts for those shoppers who use store credit cards toward
purchases.

Macy's will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving, and most locations will remain open until 2 a.m.

The stores will reopen at 5 a.m. for Black Friday.

In a statement issued to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for the
retailer explained that it won't require employees to work through the
holiday.

"We are working diligently to staff Thanksgiving with associates who
volunteer," Macy's told the Associated Press. "Doing so means that our
employees are able to make their own decisions about how they contribute
to our most important and busiest weekend of the year."

Electronics retailer Best Buy will open their doors at 5 p.m. at
stores nationwide on Thanksgiving Day, and already has posted some of
their Black Friday deals on their website.

Kohl's will open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, while Toys R Us will
open its doors at 5 p.m., keeping them open for 30-straight hours.

Meanwhile, a number of stores won’t be opening on Thanksgiving,
including Barnes and Noble, GameStop, Staples, Office Depot, Marshalls,
Petco, PetSmart, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Dillard's.

These retailers won't open until early on Black Friday, and one
retailer, REI, won't be open on Thanksgiving or Black Friday, urging
customers and staff to instead spend the day outside involved in
physical activity.
