Coppell: Red, White & Views! Winners Announced
Concerns related to COVID-19 meant that annual events including the Independence Day fireworks show and parade would not be possible in 2020
Celebrate Coppell has always been a celebration of people, events, and traditions; encouraging Coppell residents to celebrate our nation's independence. Current public health concerns related to COVID-19 meant that popular annual events including the Independence Day fireworks show and parade would not be possible in 2020, but also provided a unique opportunity to celebrate the holiday in a creative way. The City of Coppell asked residents and businesses in the community to participate in Celebrate Coppell: Red, White & Views!, showcasing their patriotic spirit by decorating their front porches, lawns, or business windows, which could then be viewed by the community over the two-week period from June 21 – July 5.
Over 40 resident homes and businesses answered the call and adorned their spaces with patriotic displays ranging from a hand painted bald eagle and Lady Liberty, to nighttime exhibitions featuring beloved Peanuts and Disney characters. A little friendly competition was added as participants contended for Most Patriotic, Most Creative, and Citizens' Choice awards. The Coppell Parks and Recreation Board awarded Most Patriotic and Most Creative, and Citizen's Choice was voted on by visitors to Coppell Parks and Recreation's Facebook page. The winners of the Celebrate Coppell: Red, White & Views! contest are as follows: Most Patriotic - Angie Huff & Shawn Lee, Most Creative – Star-Spangled Disney, and Citizens' Choice – The Hartzell Home. Patriotic displays at these locations, along with nine City facilities will be on display through Sunday, July 5.
