COPPELL, TX — A chemical spill at a a U.S. Postal Service center in Coppell has delayed delivery for residents across North Texas this week. The delay came after mercury packed inside a package spilled on Tuesday, KDFW reports. Mail delivered through the service center has been halted during a hazmat cleanup and criminal ivestigation. Mail that is usually delivered through the Coppell center is being processed at different centers in North Texas during the cleanup, the news station reported. Details of the mercury-containing package are unclear. Irving Fire Department told KDFW no one was injured as a result of the contained spill. With few exceptions it's illegal to mail items containing mercury through the United States Postal Service, and the allowable items must be properly labeled.
