Self Defense Course Being Offered For Coppell High School Girls

The six-week course will begin Jan. 17.

COPPELL, TX -- The Coppell Police Department will offer a self defense course to senior girls at Coppell High School and New Tech High School starting in January. The six week course will begin Jan. 17 and will be held on Thursday evenings through February 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., according to a Facebook post made by Coppell PD.

The classes will be held at Coppell’s Life Safety Park. Interested students are asked to contact their SRO at their respective schools for registration. For registration purposes, students will have to provide their name, age, school, email address, and cell phone number.

According to data from the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), one in nine girls and one in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault at the hands of an adult while 82 percent of all victims under 18 are female.
