1. TxDOT invites Corpus Christi community to share safety concerns about SH 361 corridor (kristv.com) — Corpus Christi residents are being asked to weigh in on safety along the SH 361 corridor at an open-house style TxDOT meeting on Sept. 21 at Island in the Son United Methodist Church. You can drop in anytime between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to talk directly with staff, review safety plans, and share concerns, or email suggestions if you can't attend.
2. Corpus Christi city property tax for the upcoming year is set (caller.com subscription) — Corpus Christi's city property tax rate will stay at 59.97 cents per $100 valuation this coming year, but many homeowners will still see higher bills if their appraisals rose. City Council approved the unchanged rate in a 7–1 vote, with the mayor abstaining, and officials say it effectively amounts to about a 0.5% tax increase overall.
3. Del Mar College launches AI strategy with chatbots, course tools and programs planned for fall 2027 (kristv.com) — Students and families in Corpus Christi should know Del Mar College is rolling out a long-term AI strategy, including chatbots to help with enrollment and AI-assisted course materials. College leaders emphasize teaching responsible use and protecting student data, while some students remain cautious about how widely AI will be used as new AI-enhanced programs target a fall 2027 launch.
4. A historical perspective on New World screwworm (avma.org) — A Corpus Christi veterinarian is closely watching new cases of New World screwworm emerging in Texas, including confirmed infections in cattle southwest of San Antonio. He recalls earlier outbreaks that devastated livestock and explains how past eradication efforts using sterile flies are guiding today's response, stressing vigilance from ranchers, veterinarians, and government agencies to keep the parasite from spreading back toward South Texas.
5. UHY expands in South Texas (accountingtoday.com) — A Corpus Christi accounting firm, Adamson & Company, has been acquired by national firm UHY, bringing its local team into a much larger network serving clients across South Texas. Leaders say the move should preserve Adamson's personalized service while giving area businesses access to more specialized expertise, national resources, and new professional development opportunities for staff.
