Rose Ellen Broll (victoriaadvocate.com) — Corpus Christi mourns the passing of 96-year-old Rose Ellen Broll, a devoted Catholic mother who raised ten children here and cherished her faith and family. Visitation, rosary, and Mass will be held October 12 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on Williams Drive, with burial later that afternoon in Yorktown and flowers coordinated through Funeraria Del Angel on Everhart Road.
2. DP World plots US port comeback with Corpus Christi container terminal (freightwaves.com) — A major deal between the Port of Corpus Christi and global operator DP World could transform the city into a full-fledged container port, diversifying beyond its energy-heavy cargo base. The planned terminal, with potential capacity of 1 million containers annually, may attract new manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics jobs while boosting rail and highway connections just south of the Inner Harbor.
3. Harbor Bridge shared-use path is now fully illuminated with permanent LED lighting for walkers and cyclists (kristv.com) — Corpus Christi residents can now safely enjoy the Harbor Bridge shared-use path after dark, thanks to nearly two miles of new permanent LED lighting. About 596 low-profile fixtures line the ADA-accessible route, including the Belvedere Lookout, and the fully illuminated path debuts during National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6 before remaining open nightly.
4. Corpus Christi couple targeted by Facebook Marketplace scammer shares tips to avoid being scammed (kristv.com) — A Corpus Christi couple narrowly avoided losing $500 to a Facebook Marketplace scammer who used fake Venmo emails and high-pressure tactics to push them into opening a bogus business account. They're now warning neighbors to insist on cash, beware urgent payment demands, and watch for suspicious emails or out-of-area phone numbers when selling items online.
5. East Texas Water Institute launches to help state's water woes (texastribune.org) — Corpus Christi is cited as one of the Texas cities most at risk of running out of water within a year or two, underscoring how urgent the state's water crisis has become. A new East Texas Water Institute at Stephen F. Austin State University aims to improve research, workforce training, and regional coordination so communities statewide, including ours, can better protect their supplies.
