18 Billionaires From Dallas-Fort Worth Make Forbes 'Richest Americans' List

DALLAS, TX — Each year, Forbes compiles a list of "richest Americans," titled The Forbes 400. 34 Texans appeared on 2017's Forbes 400. 18 of those billionaires live in Dallas-Fort Worth, including Walmart heiress Alice Walton. Walton is the richest person in Texas and the 13th richest person in the world. In total, seven members of the Walton family appear on the Forbes 400, although Alice Walton is the only one who lives in Texas.

Forbes changed the criteria for 2017's rankings. To make the list, billionaires must have an accumulated net worth of at least $2 billion. Because of this, 36 of 2016's richest Americans fell off the list.

Most Texas billionaires earned their fortunes in oil, gas and pipelines while others range from Dell Computers and Walmart to real estate.
