'Seniors on the Move' Fitness Tour Celebrates One-Year Anniversary

This week, the Dallas Fire-Rescue Department celebrated the first anniversary of its "Seniors on the Move" community fitness initiative.

The city noted the anniversary in a Monday morning press release. According to the release, the program has "transformed how local seniors engage with physical health and public safety" since it launched last April.

More than 300 local residents participated in the program, fostering a culture of wellness and connection across the city's recreation centers.

A celebration is scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 9 a.m. to be held at the Samuel Grand Recreation Center (6200 E. Grand Ave.). Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Justin Ball, assistant chiefs, and members of the community outreach team will join the workouts at 10 a.m. to mark the occasion.

This initiative started because long-time community leader Cedric Bailey decided to design a free, accessible workout tailored specifically for seniors. It became so popular that it grew into the Seniors on the Move, a traveling wellness and information resource at recreation centers across the city.

In addition to sharing health and wellness, the program serves as a vital bridge to safety for participants, who receive life-saving fire safety education and direct access to vendors providing essential resources and community assistance tailored specifically to the needs of older adults.

Dallas-Fire Rescue hopes to continue to prioritize the well-being of its senior population by combining fitness with public safety outreach. In its section year, the department will continue to bring music, energy, health, education, and other resources to recreation centers across Dallas.
