The City of Dallas is pursuing a $3 million grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that would help expand and revitalize Community Park at Fair Park.
The city put out a press release about the development on Wednesday. According to the release, Dallas City Council cleared the way for the city to receive the grant, which will bring new amenities to the park.
Dallas was identified as a recipient of funding for the Community Park at Fair Park after the passage of last year's Senate Bill 1. After the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department receives the required application and resolution, the department will issue an agreement for the city's signature.
Once fully authorized, the funds will be officially be awarded, clearing the way for exciting enhancements to begin.
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to receive this grant," said City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert. "With these funds, we'll be able to elevate the park experience and create an even more welcoming and vibrant space for the Fair Park neighborhood and visitors from across Dallas."
The Community Park at Fair Park is an ongoing project that aims to transform a parking lot into an expansive green space with interactive water features, playgrounds, and other amenities. The design process resumed after a pause in 2024.
In February, Dallas City Council voted to authorize the city manager and the Park and Recreation Board to execute a Fair Park Funding and Development Agreement with Fair Park First for the design, fundraising, and construction of the park.
Under the agreement, FPF is responsible for raising sufficient funds to fully support construction within six months of execution, completing the design within six months, and beginning construction within 90 days of permit issuance.
